Perfunctory Paging Page
I haven't written on paging because I concentrate on voice communications, not data com. But paging is good to know about, at least from an historical perspective. Cell phone text messaging now threatens paging services. Here's two .pdf files to download or read on line. The chapter by Louis is excellent: clear and well illustrated. If I get more time I will include more papers.
Here's a few tips on .pdf files. Most browsers let you click on a link and read the file on line. Click away any error messages that pop up, the file will display shortly. If you want to download the file, though, and read it later off line then do this: hold down your cursor on the link by right clicking for a few seconds. Steady! Then, when you see a list of options pop up, choose something like "save this link as" or "save this file as source" or whatever choice seems best. That will cause the file to start downloading to your hard drive. If you haven't done this before, experiment! You can't hurt anything.
Chapter 8, Paging Systems, from Telecommunications Internetworking: Delivering Services Across the Networks by P.J. Louis (635K in .pdf)
This chapter is from Telecommunications Internetworking: Delivering Services Across the Networks (external link to Amazon.com) by P. J. Louis. (McGraw Hill). It's probably not in print anymore. Try looking for other titles from Louis at Amazon.
