Care for the small things and all else
follows
On the afternoon of Saturday May 26th 2001 at 6p.m. we had
a funeral service and burial for our dear rats. Five people
and two rats came; I hope my own funeral is so nice. They are
in a lush garden of my friends in San Francisco and will have
a gardenia planted on top of their grave. The event commerated
the life and the giving love of:
Tom -- el Grande who died Sunday 29 April 2001
Rory Rat -- who died Tuesday 8 May 2001
Malcolm Rat -- who died Tuesday 2 February 1999
Rattee -- who died in the summer of 1999
Tom was well when I went away to the RSA conference, but returned
to find him ill. Despite a visit to the vet and a week and a
half of intensive nursing at home, he died. Rory, who had shown
no signs of illness but seemed very depressed, died unexpectedly
a week later. I don't know if it was from loneliness or from
a contagious condition. Their deaths were sudden and sad, but
I think their life of 2 years and 4 months was happy.
Tom and Rory were a joy to live with and will be missed greatly
by Nana and all their other friends and family. They were
indeed Rays of the Great Spirit, and are now in the care of Harrison
rat and mama Gracie on the other side. Goodbye and thank you
for being with us. You will live forever in our hearts, my black-hooded
boys.
With memories of Tomand Rory's mother Grace who died on 28
January 2001, and thoughts for their sisters Luz and Sara who
are suffering from tumors.
Grace and her four children, Tom, Rory, Sara & Luz, were
rescued in February 15, 1999 when the babies were still tiny
and nursing. We calculated January 22 their birthday. The
boys lived with Nana in Mill Valley, and Gracie and the girls
lived with Lynne Gurnee in SF. The girls moved in August
2000 to Eureka California where Luz and Sara still live with
Lynne, Pookie, Pal, & Midnight the cats, and Suzie the dog.
Their friend Hannah Rat who was rescued from inside a discarded
TV set in the park died on 19 August 2000.
Rattee was the pure white rat of Sandra Alain Kennedy. He
died in Marin City California from a tragic accident at a fairly
advanced age. His twin brother had preceded him in death a while
earlier.
Malcolm was a sweet quiet lovely brown-furred boy who lived
with me through a time of many changes and moves. We met
in Oakland in a pet store next to the Grand Lake theater where
I went with a friend to see 'Who Shot Andy Worhol'. It was love
at first sight. He was adopted on June 4 1996 and had a healthy
life until a tumor grew and took him at 2 and a half years of
age in Mill Valley, Ca.
