I've written many times on how the telephone is an electrical instrument. The current that operates your phone is varied to send your voice to the nearest switch. Telephony is all about manipulating electricity to communicate: how we generate it, switch it, vary it, and transmit it. These pictures should convince you that telephony from the beginning has been an electrical pursuit.
