The First use of Walkie Talkie Name in 1941
Don told me, "We also took two more C 18 sets to an enlistment drive in downtown Toronto where a soldier walked about with a C 18 strapped to his uniform. A News Reporter asked him, "What does it do?" He replied, "Well you can talk with it, while you walk with it". So the reporter wrote in his newspaper there was a new invention on display, a "Walkie Talkie" and the name remained from then on."
Here is a photo (attached) of his C-27 Canadian Handie Talkie from January 1943. The Earphones were better than the speaker as the noise when receiving wouldn't give away the user's position to the enemy if they were in close proximity.

Out of all the information I have only one picture of the C-27 and one written reference with the C-27 mentioned. I don't know when the earliest C-27 was developed so this will be a question I have to ask him. It didn't seem to as important as the C 58 at the time.
Sincerely,
Guy Cramer
